Firmware 2.41 out by Wednesday?

According to computerandvideogames.com(click the link in the title above)2.41 should be out by this Wednesday.I think this is probably a fair assesment.Hopefully, update 4.00 for SuperStardust HD will be re-released at the same time.Keep a check on the official Sony Blog at www.blog.us.playstation.com for further information regarding the next Firmware release.

The Future of Infinity Ward

According to the blog post in the title above(click the title folks)Infinity Ward isn't resting on their laurels with the highly acclaimed Call of Duty 4.They have recently renegotiated their deal with Activision and it's allowing them some freedom it seems.Apparently, they are going to be working on their own independent IP that they will have control over. Will this be a space sci fi shooter that has been rumoured lately? I hope so,because if it's half as good as COD4 then it's twice as good as anything else out there.I'm looking at you Halo.

I'll add a little

I expect to hear what Naughty Dog has been doing and the LBP major feature? Remote play, fluids or youtube connectivity.Your guess is as good as mine.

Burnout Paradise gets retroactive Trophies in future patch

According to Criterion designer for Burnout(Simon Phipps).Apparently once the patch uploads any progress you have made will also unlock trophies.Great idea!

"Okay, here’s what we can say about the details:

* Trophies will be retroactive, so, if you’ve achieved something today, the day the update arrives (not Cagney, we want to emphasise) that will be reflected in your Trophies.

* Your Burnout Paradise save game has always been locked to your PSN id - so there’s never been any chance of trading save games - your progress is your progress (we have a way of thinking ahead for this kind of stuff!)

* The Save Game Analyser works with a special export file that is exported when you do a manual save from the game, not your encrypted save game file - so there’s no chance that anyone could hack that

* That’s as much as we can reveal right now - if you know us and our site, we’ll let you know as soon as we are confident to do so

Thanks for all of the support and positive comments, guys - we really appreciate it.

Review of Space Invaders Extreme PSP

Many times,we all get caught up in Next Gen graphics,co-op,multiplayer and more.We tend to lose sight of games that are geniunely fun to play.Space Invaders Extreme for the Sony PSP is exactly one of those games.

Space Invaders is a game that my generation grew up playing in Arcades when we were young.I used to spend tons of quarters or tokens playing games like this, but as I've gotten older I've become more of a current player.I play first person shooters and sandbox games and really don't look back on those games like I should I guess.

So,I picked up Space Invaders Extreme and it's a game designed to work well on a portable system. It's easy to pick up and you can play for small amounts at a time.I dare you to put it down after just a few minutes though. The basic gameplay is that you slide left or right and shoot enemies. It's not a goverment plot or you trying to take down to newest Alien overlords. No,it's a simple game with some added features.
Want a devastating laser beam? check
Want a bomb thingamabob that blows stuff up? check
Want Boss fights? Check

The game adds nice new background graphics along with special weapons,Boss battles and mini game levels.I plugged my PSP up to my tv and recorded a little video.Sorry,it isn't the best in the world, but you get the idea.So got pick up this little beauty and plan on using your psp for other things than updates.

Metal Gear Solid 4 is a hit! 1 million in a week

The following press release from Konami indicates that MGS4 did exactly what they wanted it to do and that was to sell over a million in a week.See below

Metal Gear Solid 4 blows retail away!
Huge first week sales as Hideo Kojima’s epic PLAYSTATION®3 title enjoys storming first week
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced that sales of its newly-released Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots title for PLAYSTATION®3 have exceeded one million units within the first week.

Konami has shipped over one million copies of the game to retailers across Europe to meet the exceptional demand, with high sales confirmed in all European territories and securing the Number One position in the relevant sales charts.

Released globally on June 12th, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots marks the final adventure for series hero Solid Snake. With his body failing and ageing at an accelerated rate, Snake is called on one last mission to halt the plans of his long-term nemesis Liquid Snake. Liquid has seized control of a series of private armies for his own nefarious needs and, in a mission that spans the Middle East, South America and returns to Shadow Moses, Snake must stop Liquid at all costs. Also included on the disc is Metal Gear Online, a dedicated online game featuring locations from and inspired by MGS4.

In addition to the high sales across Europe, Konami has also confirmed that the limited edition MGS4 sets that comprised a ‘Making Of’ Blu-Ray, soundtrack CD and ‘Old Snake’ mannequin. 25,000 sets were made available across Europe, but were snapped up almost immediately by fans of the series.

“The Metal Gear Solid series has again proved its huge potential, and we are delighted with the fantastic response the game has enjoyed at retail,” commented Martin Schneider, Sales and Marketing Director Germany for Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH. “MGS4 is nothing short of a masterpiece – an epic conclusion to the Solid Snake story. We are extremely pleased with the positive feedback we have received from retail and consumers alike, and will keep satisfying their needs with updates to the game’s ‘Extra’ option, and via new content to Metal Gear Online.”

Possible Pics of Trophy Screens?(Rumour)PS3fanboy has it!

www.ps3fanboy has gotten some images from some tipsters reportedly of the trophy screens from 2.40.Go on over to check out the story, but take it with a grain of salt for right now. The layout is pretty nice if I do say so myself and if its not real then they need to get a job over at SCEA.

Why is every spy photo blurry? :)

PSN service down 6/24/08..Nothing to do with 2.4

The Playstation Network will be down tomorrow from 8am to 2pm PST.It doesn't look like it will have anything to do with the 2.40 firmware. They are working on a demonstration video of what 2.40 entails, but I can't see it coming this week.By,July 17th I'm thinking. So get in your gaming tonight folks.

Want a MGS movie?

Well, the voice behind Snake(David Hayter)wants you to sign a petition to Sony to get the ball rolling on a MGS movie.I've been hearing of rumours that Christian Bale(Batman,Equilibrium,3:10 to Yuma fame) is in the running.Mr.Koijima has been in Hollywood off and on during the making MGS4 so who knows.I"m gonna sign, what about you?

http://www.petitiononline.com/hayter/petition.html

What I'm playing this week.

So, it looks like a week for gaming and here's my list.Look for a review of Space Invaders Extreme on PSP up before the weekend too.

Xbox 360

According to Kotaku sources,Heavenly Sword 2 has been canceled by SCEE.This will make the thrid title canceled by SCEE.Personally,I thought the game was fun,but I couldn't quite see a IP that was a clone of God of War.Will there be more cancellations?

PSP Firmware 4.00 available soon

The official Sony Blog has up some info on the next PSP firmware. It doesn't look like much will be available. From Eric Lempel(Director of PSN operations)below:

I wanted to give you all a heads up that a new PSP system software update, v4.00, will be released soon, adding Google Internet search directly to the XMB (XrossMediaBar) interface.

This new upgrade replicates the Google Internet search experience, delivering the same search results that you’d get at www.google.com. And with a search history recall of 20 items, Web searches couldn’t be easier.

After you download and install the firmware on your PSP, click on the XMB’s Network icon and then the new Internet Search icon. Enter your keywords and then let Google’s algorithms do the work. You’ll need to be connected to the Internet via a wireless access point or Wi-Fi hotspot. Googling something on the go has never been more convenient on your PSP.

Another new feature delivered through the 4.00 update is the ability to change viewing speed during playback of videos stored on your Memory Stick PRO Duo, so you can speed through or slow down what you’re watching. To do this simply press the up or down directional buttons while playing a video. Enjoy!

Spore Creature Creator Demo

Saw this on www.videogaming247.com.I'm going to be downloading this today as it looks like a load of fun.

I think Robbie Bach is right. My Xbox 360 story

Earlier this week,I read a interview with Robbie Bach(Head of Microsoft Entertainment and Devices Group)that said that despite the hardware failures, customers were still brand loyal. Here's the quote to be accurate:

"In the ordinary course of something like this, you would expect it to show up in the customer reaction data. We just haven’t seen that. It speaks to the fact that they love their games and Xbox Live. Does it frustrate them? Yes. On the other hand, they know we’re taking care of them. People have a certain amount of respect for that. If it had happened on a product that had less baseline customer satisfaction, it would have had a bigger impact. We really haven’t seen that."

I will have to agree with Mr Bach on this assessment and that leads to my story.

I purchased my Premium 360 in April 2006,and it has worked flawlessly until just about two weeks ago.I was playing GTA4 and the 3 red lights came up.I contacted Microsoft support and received my coffin(box to ship it back in).I tracked the package and they received it on a friday.

Well,I got my 360 back on the following Tuesday.Three days?? That is amazingly fast for any kind of turnaround.Yes,I checked to make sure it was the same box.I had a ink mark on the side and it was still there.

Fast forward to this past Friday and my 360 started flashing 2 lights. That's the code for overheating. So,I can only assume that it wasn't completely fixed the first time.Yes,I was a little irritated as you might imagine. So I logged in to Xbox.com and order another repair order. Now,my 360 is going back for repairs again. That's twice in two weeks basically.

Now here's the strange thing. As Bach said, yes it is very irritating, but I'm still ready to get my 360 back to play.I have a PS3,PSP,PC and I play all of those just as much, but I'm just not mad enough at Microsoft yet to give up...Yet.

Haze was terrible. Will Star Wars Battlefront 3 be better?

I think we are all in agreement that Haze was a pretty bad title.I don't think it was Superman 64 bad,but I couldn't get farther than a hour or so into the game. Since,I'm hearing that Free Radical(rumour) will be getting their hands on the Lucasart's title Star Wars Battlefront 3.Will it come out as a better game and will they put more effort into it than Haze. I was a big fan of SW Battlefront on PC and hope that they can take their time and make it what it should be.Big freaking space battles and no Ewoks.

Many people feel Haze was over hyped or that it was a peace offering between Sony and Ubisoft to get their feet in the door of exclusivity.I rather feel it's a big pot of both. That Haze had to live up to a lot of expectations and fell rather flat in all departments.

I would ask that if a new Star Wars Battlefront comes to fruition, that it would have a good community site with Rankings and Stats. That's all I want.

360 getting Mii like Avatars??

According to 360fanboy,it looks like Microsoft will be changing your 360 gamerpic over to a more realistic avatar of what you look like.It looks pretty interesting, but I think the 360 could use some better changes than this.Look for this to show up at E3 next month.

Also check out www.thesixthaxis.com for more info.

Metal Gear Solid 4 sells 300k in one day in Japan

Definitely, great news for Konami/Sony.I imagine that worldwide, they easily went over a million or more.I've never really gotten into Metal Gear myself, but this game is so well done.I played for four hours straight last night and I never really sit down for one sitting like that much anymore.

Wii crushes all,PS3 ahead of 360

NPD numbers were released and the Wii continues to destroy all in it's path. It' actually going to pass the 360's US user base this month.Wow.Sony pulled ahead of Microsoft by 22k consoles and I expect it to be even more in the month of June.Sound's like this is the year of the playstation. That's 3-2 for Sony in months leading in console sales in the US. Congrats Guys!

Wii - 675,100
Nintendo DS - 452,600
PlayStation 3 - 208,700

MGS4:This is going to be a good week for Sony

Although,I've never really played much of the Metal Gear series,I'll be buying MGS4 this Thursday. From what I've seen(and I'm not trying to spoil myself)the game looks pretty good and alongside the main game, you get Metal Gear online.I won't have much time Saturday, but I intend to put forth some time on Thurs,Friday and Sunday and report back with what I like and dislike about the game..

Qore:The review and is it worth your money

Yesterday or this morning(however you want to look at it) Qore was released on the PSN.You can buy a episode(what I recommend) or purchase a yearly subscription for $24.99 and get a free copy of Calling All Cars. Qore contains
videos, art galleries and some info on the following games. Soul Calibur,Afro Samurai,Force Unleashed,Socom Confrontation,Secret Agent Clank. There is also a trailer for the Incredible Hulk(I'm going to see this movie!!)

In this first interration of Qore, you get a spot in the Socom Beta(which I hear is two weeks after it officially starts, but that may change) and a very cool Socom Theme. Now,the question that you are going to ask is it worth my $2.99.This is kinda iffy in my opinion, because I've seen all of the Qore content in one way or the other. Many others, will find this as new info and very appealing. This is why I recommend buying it by the month, because some may be better than others.

I don't think this is Sony's step into charging for PSN( it's not) but a lot of nay sayers will want to make you believe it is.Once the video store goes live, you will see all sorts of content and Qore is really just the beginning. So what you have to ask yourself about the first episode is if the Socom Beta will be worth 3 bucks..My money says yes.

Novastrike hits the Sony PSN June 5th

Looks like a interesting title..I have a feeling that
tomorrow is going to be a really really busy day on the PSN.

Resistance 1 and 2 will have trophies and Home support

Today in a chat on Eurogamer Ted Price,CEO of Insomniac said thats plans are to incorporate
Trophies and Home support into Resistance 1 & 2.Great News!

Haze : I couldn't play it any longer.

My original idea was to do a in depth review, but I couldn't make it through the game. While the graphics aren't really bad,the cut scenes and voice overs are some of the worst I have ever seen. The idea of a drug that helps you play better, but would inhibit you, were you to over dose seemed like a good idea. The problem is that you really don't need the nectar and it doesn't really play the role you would think it would.
I may try to play it again, but it is pretty bad..I had high hopes for the game too.
I will probably try to give it another shot, but it left a bad taste.

Insomniac opening Studio in NC nearby

Insomniac games, the creators of Resistance:Fall of Man and the Ratchet and Clank series are opening up a studio in the Raleigh Durham area in 2009.The studio will employee 30 employees apparently. This is great news for the local economy.I wonder if Insomniac will need community people??? I'm available :)

Unlocking accolades =Trophies in MGS4

Today,Brandon Laurino posted up 12 tips for MGS4,but what was very
informative is this little tid bit.Wanted to be the first site to bring this info and we were..

"MGS4 is a game built from the ground up for repeat play. As the story draws to a close, you are awarded with one or more secret emblems that acknowledge (and, in effect, rate) your performance and style of play. Usually, even veteran gamers only unlock one, perhaps two on their initial playthrough. There are a ton of these accolades in total"

Sounds like rewards,trophies to me...

So I play Haze next week..

I guess we'll see if it's as bad as everyone seems to think or if it's a case
of the mob mentality of reviewers.I'm working on Dark Sector, which isn't a bad game.It does have a case of the Gears of War syndrome(with the color pallete)but it's still a fun game so far.

Friday, May 30, 2008

What I'm playing this weekend.

Well, the 360 made it into the repair station in Texas yesterday,so probably two more weeks of no Xbox :(..So,I'm gonna play the PS3 as much as I can.I just picked up Devil May Cry 4 the other day and I have Dark Sector sitting here,so I'm going to try to play through those this weekend.I might also download PixelJunk Monsters,it gets a lot of good reviews btw.

2.4 PS3 Firmware in Action

Cellphone pics of the trophy screen, clock, etc.
Apparently,2.4 is getting even closer.I reported on this earlier in the month(yes before a few websites said they did)

2.4 is shaping up to offer PS3 users in game XMB,music, clock, multiple user log ins on the same PS3 and more. The pdf file indicating 2.4 is floating around to devs now and Insomniac has hinted at it also.
Will it make it before June 12th and will we starting seeing trophy patches?

PSN update 5/29/08:Come back next week.

This weeks update was terrible, nothing really to download at all for the US.I had to go to the UK store to even find anything to look at.In other news, some websites are starting to pick up on the news of firmware 2.4,so that's good.

Pre-order Secret Agent Clank..get a cool little figurine

You can download the demo from the store, but if you pre-order now
from a gamestop, then you can get a neat little Secret Agent Clank figure.

Youtube to have direct PS3 uploading of video

See below..and great news. The capability to do this was first made aware in the 2.35 Firmware update

Back in March, we launched the new YouTube APIs and Tools, with the goal of making YouTube an open video services platform and available for use by any website, desktop application, or consumer device. Today, we are announcing a new partnership that takes advantage of the YouTube APIs in a new and interesting way.

We are happy to announce that PLAYSTATION®3 (PS3TM) has integrated the YouTube APIs to allow game developers to create games that enable direct upload of in-game video captures to YouTube. This YouTube upload functionality can be incorporated not only into new PS3 game titles, but also existing PS3 titles that have the ability to receive network updates. Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. has added YouTube functionality to Mainichi Issho, a popular game with PS3 users in Japan. Gamers will now be able to upload their in-game video captures to YouTube. We're excited at the opportunity this presents and look forward to more and more games to be enhanced with YouTube.

The YouTube APIs are available to all developers and we hope that game developers everywhere will use the YouTube APIs to make video an integral part of their game experience. Whether it's showing off that fantastic touchdown pass, car slide, or karaoke sing-along, we hope that more user-generated content from games will make their way to YouTube and connect with the gamer communities.

Let the games begin!

Kotaku user has pics of PSN cards in the wild

Photobucket

So a reader named "Josh" from Kotaku has taken some photos of a setup for PSN cards at his local Meijers. This is pretty good news.Although, some PSN cards have been available at Military bases for quite a while. The reason for this is that the AVS certification in the PSN does not accept P.O.Boxes or APO boxes. When I talked to Sony in January, they told me they were beta testing them and they would be released soon. Can't wait myself, due to the fact that I have a PO box myself. Let's get it going Sony!!

Memorial Weekend:Not much time for games!

Well, this weekend was pretty busy with family and doing stuff with the girlfriend. We went out and got some things for the baby coming in October. I did go by Gamestop and checked on my stepdaughters Pink Nintendo DS.I'm just going to wait a few days before her birthday and pick it up.I almost picked up a Nintendo Wii,but I feel like I'll just wait a little longer.I did pick up Devil May Cry 4,which looks beautiful. It plays just like the original versions I played on PS2,but looks much better. I also put down my preorder for Metal Gear Solid 4,so I can't wait for that and I'm not the biggest Metal Gear fan.Other than that,it's been a pretty lax weekend for the games. So,hopefully next week it'll pick up! See ya soon.

Uncharted:Drake Fortune..A great thrillride.

How can a game be this good?
Uncharted is one of the few games that I've really enjoyed to the end.It plays
very much like a movie and is just as entertaining.Yes,it does resemble Indiana Jones,Tomb raider, the Mummy and other shows, but is that a bad thing? Some people
will say that the Zombies at the end, doesn't really make much sense.I think that
the entire storyline is great and you really have to play through to the end to
get the entire story.

Uncharted has a great mix of action, puzzle solving and platforming and is well worth a 9-9.5 score. The only problem I have with the game is that weapons seem a little weak except for the grenade launcher. So,if you never played Uncharted,go pick it up and enjoy.

My 360 finally went RROD

I purchased it in 4/26/06 and I never really had issues other than disc read errors till last week. While playing GTA4 it red lighted and I reset it and it went away.Well, today I wanted to play a little GTA4 and it wouldn't come on except for three blinking red lights.I called Microsoft and after having to repeat my address and info several times I think he got it right..Sigh..I usually don't like to give in to the RROD,but Microsoft needs to do better. How about a trade up program for the Elite??
I'm so into my 360 I can't just leave it and forget it..26 Xbox arcade games, over 40 360 titles on it and video, movies, etc plus Rockband.
I guess I won't be playing 360 much for the month of June afterall..

SCEE to start posting in the SCEA blog.

The following comments from Jeff Rubenstein.

"We’re working on some plans to get SCEE contributing to this blog. Stay tuned"

This is basically in line with what I reported the other day from what I heard.I think the SCEE traffic through the SCEA blog might have turned a few heads.

Konami pushing for Trophies before June 12th?

Sev is saying (from his sources) that Konami is pushing Sony to get 2.4 up and running before June 12th.From my sources(it's a decent possiblity) and that the Open beta in November for Home isn't really the final release..hmmm
Also expect something better on the information front for Sony's official blogs in regards to the SCEE reigon.Yes,Threespeech(better spell it the proper way instead of joking or the dorks wont' get it..lol) isn't pulling it's own. Stay tuned for some more info tomorrow on Sony happenings!

Oh Noes!!! LittleBigPlanet delayed one month

Photobucket

Well,LBP is pushed back a month. This is not that big of a deal compared to what many people think about Killzone 2 getting bumped to 2009. From what I understand,Media Molecule is trying to pack in plenty of content for the creation part of the game. The single player game seems to be really up to snuff, with harder obstacles, bosses, enemies and plenty of ways to die.You are timed on your completion of the board. There are checkpoint orbs,so if you do die or get left behind you restart at that point.I'm really excited about this game. I guess it's because I want to build a Mario board(who doesn't right?)

Review of the Haze Demo

First off,the Haze demo is not bad at all. The guns feel a little akward, but I get a very Haloish vibe when playing the game. One thing I noticed and it's a sort of in game XMB. From the profile screen in the game, you can bring up a menu that has friends(that menu is the XMB friends list). So in game XMB should not be a problem.
Not much of a storyline to begin with.Your dropped in the Jungle to fight Rebels. There is a tutorial on using the drug Nectar.Basically,it helps you see your enemies, makes you faster and melee like the Hulk. The graphics aren't bad, either. So,I think this game is definitely going to be worth a look.

Happy Playstation Day!!!!!!

I will have some updated info of all the coverage from the show
today in London. Also, expect a review of the Haze Demo and
some thoughts about what to expect later this year from the PS3/PSN .

GTA4 is going to take up some time.

So I sit down to play for a few hours last night and I have one thing to say about Rockstar's game..

Fantastic!

I feel like I'm playing a episode of the Shield/Sopranos or something.I'm playing the 360 version now and I'll be playing the PS3 title some this week too. Only three achievements so far,but the story is very engrossing. I'm not spoiling it,but it keeps dragging me back to play it. Although, one of the characters sounds like Watto from Star Wars: Attack of the Clones..jeez

I'll get the PSN info up today. This game is dragging me away from some of the PS3 stuff I was working on,but I'll get back into it(blog) this weekend hopefully.

Now the step daughter(Mikayla) wants a Nintendo DS(great!!!!) and some games. Wish I had kept mine, but she wants pink one.I'm glad she likes games.

Games I'm looking forward to..Later this year.

Well, after GTA4 then you have MGS4 and it's not a lot after that..So let's look forward and I'll tell you what I'm looking forward to later this year. There is some real expectation for these games and there are some more I'm missing that I'll probably start checking out.

Sony PS3:
LittleBigPlanet
Resistance 2
Socom Confrontation

Xbox 360:
Gears of War 2
I was going to put Too Human, but after hearing them whine about this freaking game..no
I'm in the frame of mind ..it's going to suck bad..
Yeah,it's starting to look a little weak on the 360 side..whats the deal?

I'm going to start back doing reviews too..so stay tuned. The gloves come off on some games and gush about others!

It's time for GTA4...Let's rock!

Photobucket

So it's time for GTA 4 and yes I'm really wanting to play this game.Never been the biggest fan of the franchise myself, but after all the hype..I must check out this game.I'll be playing both versions in the coming weeks and I hope to put up a side by side comparison of both copies..This will really be interesting for the fans, the fanboys and the slightly interested..So stay tuned!

Since the PSN store isn't reigon locked..go sign up

I would suggest a Hong Kong and UK account.I haven't really looked at the SCEJ side,so not sure whats there. The UK side has some nice themes and some other stuff,so check them out.Just google up a address in London or either Hong Kong and setup a new email account on hotmail and your ready to go!

Trying to secure a interview/questions

Just sent a message to a community manager for a company. Not gonna say which one or anything until he says yes or no,but hopefully I'll be able to get a few questions answered about their major game release this year. They are a good bunch of folks(appreciate the games!)so if he says yes, then I'll put it up to the readers for some questions.

May PSN Store Content "rumors"

This is what I'm expecting for May.I may be a week or so off in there so don't
kill me! lol I'll try to put in some kind of order

Pain DLC character Nigel(yes another one)
The Bourne Conspiracy Demo
Pixel Junk DLC(this might go next week..?)
Bionic Commando rearmed(probably mid may)
Haze Demo(this has to hit before the 22nd at least.
Elefunk(end of may?)
Wipeout HD
There are some more PS1 games down the pipeline too.But I'm guessing it'll be drawn out.
Rayman,Streetfighter Alpha,Wipeout XL,Syphon Filter 3

Will the Hot Shots demo hit?? UK got it.
I think the next couple weeks for the SCEE and SCEA stores will get noticeably better!

Home Delayed...

Yes,it was announced today that Home will be delayed. Guess it takes a little more time
to sort it out.I'm more concerned with in game XMB and playing some decent titles
in the coming year.I really hope I can get into the closed beta.I hear they will release
some info on this.Should be interesting to see what is required.

The week in Review of my video games

So,this week has been a busy week on the personal front.I picked up GT5P this week, after getting rid of Burnout Paradise.I believe I made it to the A license on the game and it pretty much was the end of what I found exciting about the game.I've been more interested in what Sony has been releasing lately.I really do believe that this year is going to be the year of the playstation 3. I'm picking up GTA4 next week on 360,to see how it's going to be.

I picked up the new update to Stardust HD and I have to say this is one of the best
downloadable games on either PSN or Xbox Live. I know it's just a shmup, but it really keeps
you involved and keeps you coming back.I recommend picking it up.

Played some more COD4 on 360 and yes,it's the best game on 360.I'm really glad that Infinity Ward made this game. It's better than Halo 3 and is the Counter Strike on the console generation.

I might pick up the Warhawk booster packs this week,so expect a review of those.

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

I've got a copy of GT5Prologue on my desk..

I've never been the biggest Grand Turismo fan,but I figure I'll give it a whirl tonight
and report back.It will be on the PSN tomorrow and hits retail today/tomorrow depending
on where you live. There are about 70cars in the game with 6tracks with alternative routes/mirrored. Should be fun!

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

Today was a busy day for Sony

So,the official Sony blog has posted up a State of the Playstation Nation report.Say that three times fast..

PSN Cards coming out soon..(knew this in December, but what was dragging it out)Home,XMB and Accomplishments are coming..Flower( A game from the creators of FLOW is down the road.
I won't bore you to tears so..
You can read all about it over on http://blog.us.playstation.com.

The main thing is the new redesign of the store. You have to love it.It's fast and
really easy to use and find what you need.Gotta give them some credit on some hard work.
There is some content in the store like a Lair update,Super Stardust Update(I have this on my system and it rocks)The only thing is if you don't immediately see it in game, then reload the update and restart and it will boot back up. The rest of the other content will hit Thursday.I can then download the client for Metal Gear Online.(I got a code from Konami yesterday..Thanks!)

Haven't tried GT5P,but I'll play it some tomorrow..Been a long day and I need some sleep.

Monday, April 14, 2008

I won a free code for the Metal Gear online Beta.

So,I was on the official Sony blog...http://blog.us.playstation.com and I saw the new
Metal Gear Mondays post.In the post, was a link to Konami to sign up for the Beta.I signed
up and four mins later and I was in.Well I can download it on the 17th of April, but it doesn't actually start till the 21st.

I'm excited about this.Yet another Beta to play..lol

Sunday, April 13, 2008

I don't like RPGS..but I think I'm going to like Fallout 3.

So,the more and more I hear/see of Fallout 3..The more I want to play it.I'm thinking about picking it up ,just for the bobble head figure on the collectors edition. Well, the game is in a playable state apparently, and we're seeing more and more screenshots, with hopefully some video gameplay down the road shortly. I've never played any of the previous games,so maybe I can go into this with a clear mind and take advantage of the game without being previous Fallout player.I hear those diehards are pretty rough.

Thursday, April 10, 2008

PSN Store Video up and some questions answered..

A new video went up this morning on the official Sony blog for the new store update.I hope my idea of putting firmware update videos on the store makes it Jeff...I'm taking credit for that.
Well the new XMB interface looks pretty neat and it goes live April 15th.Store updates will be on the 17th and will continue to be on Thursdays..HD trailers for Movies will still be available(I know some people have been worried that just clips in the preview screen were it..

The Store will not be reigon locked..Good news,Europeans and anybody looking for unusual content not in your area. I'm seeing all kinds of reports of what may show up in the store from Home(not going to happen,sorry...) to others..SSHD update, new boards for Pixel Junk, etc

So check it out,but you may want to try youtube as the site has been experiencing some issues.

Home: Can it save Sony?

We all know there are private betas currently active for Home.We all know that we should see it sometime in 2008. But,is it the answer to Xbox Live? No,maybe..possibly more.I think Sony is trying the social aspect to bring gamers into a bigger picture.Yes,on Live you can send messages, see what your friend is doing and all that.Well, that is basically what Home will do also, but I think it's going to be more.I think the whole Xmb issue(which I understand the assets are already in the updates)should be resolved pretty soon. So,will we get what we want?

No, we won't. Point being is that you can't please the average gamer.I'm sure there will be some functionality that isn't up to par in someone's mind, but we'll get the base of what we need. After looking at the interactivity that Uncharted,Resistance and Warhawk get...I can't help, but be excited. I just can't wait to see how it evolves from first release to later revisions.

Once they get to the point where you hit the PS button, bring up a friends name(see what level he is on,his accomplishments) and you can join the game he is playing..Then I think Sony has come a long way.

The other thing about Accomplishments/Home I want to mention is the need for a total score/bankroll.I have thought about the idea of having a Accomplishment total score and using the points to be able to buy extras for Home. Extra furniture, outfits, different apartments, etc.
Here's what you do..Have a total Accomplishment score, but have seperate bankroll with the same amount. It subtracts the points when you buy items, but still shows you have 10k accomplishment points to your friends..

Just a idea Sony!

Video of the new PSN to be up this week and other PS3 rumors

Keep an eye out on the official sony blog this week for some new video of the new store upgrade. From what I hear it'll be before Wednesday,so keep checking http://blog.us.playstation.com.

Bioshock 2 on PS3?? Seems like it's going to happen .
Kotaku has a story up on it now,but they have been posting job postitions for a while now.

Whats going to be on the PSN store after the 15th?
I've keep hearing rumours of a psn original game, some more PS1 titles,GT5P of course and a larger content amount. My money is on Echochrome(but I've heard May-June)

PS3 getting Fallout 3 exclusively?
No,it's going to be mulitplatform...I've asked..give it a rest folks.It's for PC,360 and PS3.

Infinity ward is plugging away on the PS3 maps for COD4,so expect them not long after store release.Go buy them, they are worth the money.

DLC for Ratchet and Clank..Yes,but when??
I think the PSN release chart was not a fake after all..Bring it on guys.

Quick review of the COD4 Variety Pack Maps

Well,I was off work today to go to the doctor with my gf.We're expecting our first child,so that was fun. But,I woke up early to check out the new maps and downloaded them off Xbox Live.
It took about 45 mins for the full 446mb download. There seems to be three map variety rotations.Deathmatch,Objective and Hardcore. So here's the run down.

1.Creek
It's sniper heaven. The map leaves a nice section of high ground for an assault, but this map is really made for sniping. There is a riverbed and a tunnel network along with a small town to fight in on the top of the hill. If you like the sniper rifles, then this is your map. It's my second favorite

2. Broadcast
My favorite map easily. It wide and varied in it's size, shape and options. This is basically, the TV station from the single player game, but much larger. It has a parking lot and multiple entrances.Very fun and some good close quarter combat in this one.

3. Chinatown
It's supposedly,a remake of Carentan from COD2.The map has plenty of stores and buildings to fight in and city streets.I like it,but it doesn't really go along with the COD4 theme. Keep your claymores handy on this map.

4.Killhouse
Haven't played it yet.I think it's either not setup correctly,or I'm not choosing the right map selection.

Podcast Review Central #2 Major Nelson's Podcast

Major Nelson's podcast is another that I listen to on a weekly basis.Although,I would like for it to contain more discussion about titles and what is going on,it is very informative. The interviews are a nice touch as you get a insight into the gaming world. Larry Hyrb(gamertag Major Nelson)
does a excellent job in communicating the updates/marketplace info on his official blog and does mention some content in the podcast also. He is routinely joined by "E" who is also a Microsoft employee(but he still hasn't beaten COD4)..so make sure to download the podcast and check them out. It's definitely worth a listen.

New Pics of the PSN store revision

Eurogamer.net has the first pics of the new PSN.Looks pretty good. They keep the similar colors but change it to a more centralized designed. The upgrade should hit before the end of the month.

Weekend Ramblings

So I traded in Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Army of Two today.I tried to get Condemned 2,but it was sold out.So I picked up the PS3 eye camera. You can do videos and there are several neat games out there on the PSN for it.So I'll try those out. I also preordered GTA4 for the xbox 360.I've never really been a grand theft auto fan,but this looks appealing. Now,it looks like Sony will be updating Home with GTA features(kinda wish I had gotten it on PS3)

I also picked up a 50 dollar visa card to buy some items on the PSN,since Sony will not let my credit card work since its a PO box address.

Well of to watch I am Legend with the GF.Should be fun!

Socom Confrontation:Release date of Sept16th

1up is reporting that Socom Confrontation is going to be released Sept 16.A socom website will also go live soon.Check it out.
Should be a fun PSN game and from the pics I have seen, pretty too.

Army of Two/360 : Definitely Rental Material

I can't stand it.Sorry, but I'll be blunt about it. The game irritates me to no end.If you are looking to pick this up and play the single player campaign..Forget it! The AI is completely useless. For example,I was wounded and the AI decided to drag me around the entire board and I couldn't do anything until it decided to stop and heal me. I may try to play it some more, but this may be a trade-in.I usually can handle some problems, but it's just so frustrating. Also, when you switch the difficulty to Contractor..It's really really tough. The gun sounds are terrible, etc.
I guess the only saving grace in my mind is that you can play with a friend and that makes a much better game. But,so far I'm not impressed..Save your money folks.

2.20 PS3 update is out!!

Downloading it now..Pick it up
Includes some new BD functionality.

Gaming Website Review #1 PS3forums.com

This week we look at a favorite of mine and you dont have to be a PS3 owner only to enjoy it.They cover everything from old school consoles to the 360 to everything else under the Sony umbrella. The forum is moderated very well and they don't suffer from too much of the rampant fanboyism seen in other sites. You can get updated news(I've seen it pop up there faster than Kotaku),you can even get a custom signature made very quickly. Technically, the site loads slow on occassion, but it could be traffic issues. So check em out when you get a chance at www.ps3forums.com

My name over there is RMoore,so if you see this hit me up.

Star Trek gaming..

There really is a need for a game for Star Trek that is a RPG.Look at Oblivion, and you can imagine Trek in that scenario. I understand, most people don't like the starship battles(I like it)but, lets get a RPG. Come on!! Bethesda knows how to do a RPG,so it's not a problem...Fallout 3 is starting to get playable and is going tobe a great game.I know they have the abilty..It's just that the fanbase has a certain loyalty..I want a RPG..Let's get it going!!!~!

360/PS3 Random thoughts.

360 Thoughts

The new update for RockBand became available this week. The store is perfect. The worst part before was trying to see the songs available on Marketplace and now you have it together in a well designed setup.Great Job!

Call of Duty 4 continues to soak up most of my time.Looks like I'll be downloading the new map pack available on April 3rd. It's going to be 800MS points, but well worth it.

I have been playing some Army of Two and it's very fun with a buddy, but the AI partner is completely retarded.I play on professional level and I was wounded..Well the AI dragged me around the whole board before healing me.Yeah,I think I'm just playing for achievements now..

I'm going back to playing a little Star Trek Legacy. Some of the better players like (gamertag:)
XXTC,Surlaw the Mai,Terrabtyz are playing in a tournament.I'm definitely not good enough to play those guys, but the tips are very helpful.

Xbox Live Arcade has been sucking majorly lately.Nothing really I want to play. Come on Bionic Commando!!!

Burnout Paradise has been fun,but it's a major time sucker trying to find all of the jumps and billboards.I continue to play it and it's a ton of fun.Pick it up if you get a chance.

Be sure to check out pick and play on Xbox Live. It's on the inside Xbox channel .Interesting little show.I listen to achievement junkie podcast and I love it!

PS3 Thoughts
If you aren't playing Uncharted Drakes Fortune, then you should. It really is a great game.

The Warhawk 1.3update should be available soon if it isn't already.Using a wrench to blow up a tank??? How can you not love that shit...really

PSN cards??? Where are you?
I'm having to use a generic credit card that you buy from walmart to buy games.Looking forward to getting SuperStardust HD.The demo is fun.

Downloaded Condemned 2,but haven't tried it yet.Maybe today.

GT5 Prolouge should be out soon. Not sure,if I'm getting it,but I'll be looking at the community opinion first.

PS3 update 2.20 very soon

According to press releases Sony will dropping 2.20 very soon.Maybe as early as today.
Here is some of what is in the update.I expect some hidden stuff too to get it up to snuff for Home/XMB(which I think will be Sony's announcement at E3)

See below:

The ability to copy PS3 Music and Photo playlists to a PSP system. We introduced the ability to create Music and Photo playlists on the PS3 in firmware update v2.0. Now you can easily export your playlists to your PSP.

You can now play DivX and WMV format files that are over 2 GB.

Resume Play - begin playing a DVD or BD disc from the point where you previously stopped it, even if you eject the disc and insert a different movie or game.

Use your PSP as a remote control to play back your music files on your PS3 without turning on your TV.

The Internet browser now displays some web pages faster.

Game Giveaway: Star Trek Conquest

With the start of the new blog we want to have a contest and give away a game.
First off, this is a relatively new game from Bethesda(I purchased this one) and I will give it away to the person who has some graphics talent. What we need is a new logo and a banner for the top of the blog.It needs to be in HTML for the blog and incorporate Well Rounded Gamer as the title.
So send me what you have to gnewton@nc.rr.com. Put Game giveaway as your subject thread.
I know the trek fans will probably go for it,but anyone is welcome.
Thanks

Review of Pain/PSN

Pain is one of those games that you either love or hate (like a relative).Even though the game is out in the US,it should be hitting Europe this week or next (hopefully and according to gossip).First the bad things. It is lacking in content and value. The game costs $9.99 and you get basically one section of a city to send your guy flying into objects ala The Greatest American Hero.If the game was say $5.99 I could understand it,but nonetheless I still enjoy it. It's a good family game also, but don't expect to play it for hours on end. Three levels and the game would have been golden, but this feels setup to burn your for extra content on PSN. You can also buy extra characters, but I still feel ripped off at this point.
Well, you ask what are the good things? It's damn fun. You have got to laugh at someone falling into a smokestake or getting their nuts smashed into a pole. Yes,it is a test of what the Havok engine can do and it does have a lot of failings. But,I think if you have the extra coin and want a little time waster, then why not. Although, don't blame me when you say "That's it?"
There are extra modes such as Mime Toss,Spank the Monkey and the free dlc fun with explosives which adds some extra play time. There is also a mp selection to the game, but I rarely play that much. So is it worth your money?

Yes,if your money was 5-6 bucks, but at the current price point I don't think so.

Army of Two Co-op

EA's Army of Two Co-op is very, very fun. I played this with my girlfriend's brother Saturday and it rocks. I can't say anything about the single player yet,but if you have some friends then this game is for you. So go buy it and ignore your family for a while.

Burnout Paradise/xbox 360

I have been playing this game for a while now and it's quite fun.I'm just trying to figure out
the perfect park achievements and how to do showtime. It's hard to get 1.5m on showtime.Any hints? I need about 15 more events to make it to A license. With all the games to review and play how will I make the time.

Podcast Review Central #1

This is the first in a little review of my favorite podcasts. So go to itunes and download achievement junkie. It's only about 30 minutes long, but it's quite enjoyable. Nelson and Natalie are the hosts and you feel like your listening to regular people talking about their favorite games. The podcast is 360 specific so dont' plan on hearing any playstation discussion, but it's worth a download.
You won't hear anything new or amazing, but if you want to hear some relaxing talk about games. You found the right podcast

Burnout DLC free??

I really enjoy Burnout Paradise so any content that is free is good..Keep it coming
Story below from shacknews.

Some of the upcoming downloadable content for Criterion Games' open-world racer Burnout Paradise (PS3, X360) will be free, creative director Alex Ward has revealed.
"The [new] islands will all be free," Ward wrote on the developer's official forum. The island environments are expected to provide owners with new challenges and tracks.
"That's not to say all of the downloadable content we are working on will be free," he later told videogaming247. "We will charge (price TBC) for some stuff."

Ward remained tight-lipped on the specifics of the content that could incur a charge, noting that the company sees DLC as a way of "continuing to develop the game which we worked on....almost to the point of making a new game.
"New game modes are very important to us, but it's about more than that," he teased

GTA4: New MP modes.

Some new info popping up on gta4.net. I'm not really interested in GTA4,but I might still pick it up based on its popularity..Now which platform to go with..hmmm
Copied and pasted below for easy reading.

What I'm playing this weekend. 3/14 edition

Proably not going to be doing much tonight, but I hope to get in some Rock Band this weekend with my friends.Sunday will be some COD4 on 360 and I'm going back and playing what I didn't finish on Uncharted:Drakes Fortune. It's still the best looking game on the PS3. Reminds me of Indiana Jones if he only wore better clothes.

Enewtabie's review: Call of Duty 4/Xbox 360

I wanted to start my reviews with a game that really has taken a hold of my personal time. First off,let me give you a disclamer.I'm not a professional reviewer, but I will give you a straight opinion.

The single player campaign will rock your ass from beginning to end.Although, the plotline feels like a Michael Bay movie(which isn't a bad thing or is it?) you can't help, but be sucked in. I won't spoil the ending, but it's one of the best in modern video games. Listen up Infinity Ward and make a few more single player missions as DLC.I will spend the money. The SP missions are well rounded and vary from locations all over Europe and the Middle East and Russia. You will spend your time playing as either a British SAS commando or USMC Marine.I personally would have liked more time with the Marines. The graphics are also very impressive and I only suffered slight framerate slowdown, but that could be the 360s fault.

Now to the bread and butter. The multiplayer slaps you in the face like a cheap prostitute. From the perks to the challenges to the wide variety of maps. The level system maxes out at rank 55,but you can go over to prestige levels 1-10. I'm on level 45,but I will be stopping at 55 so I can keep all of my weapons. I've played most of the types of games and I find Headquarters to be my favorite.Probably the combination of high scores , unified goal and I like stabbing people in the neck who are protecting the HQ. The multiplayer will definitely pull you away from other things. Just don't forget to dump the trash or wash dishes(hmrph)

Infinity Ward will be releasing 4 maps as a part of a pack this spring/summer.No idea about price yet,but many are hoping for free. I'll gladly pay up to 800 MS points myself. I also think downloadable missions and weapons would be a good idea. Listen up fourzerotwo..

So in Conclusion,if you don't have this game. Go buy it. You'll thank me. You wife, partner or significant other will curse me to no end. You'll be smiling while singing "Frag out!"
